Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev won the recently concluded Swedish Open after a dominant performance (which included a second set bagel) against top seed and former champion Casper Ruud in the final. The title is Rublev’s second this year on clay, after his victory at the Monte Carlo Masters in April.

However, surprising as it may seem, it is not Rublev’s title victory that is the talk of the tennis community as much as his now-viral celebration at a nightclub after the final. The video footage captured Rublev doing pull-ups off the nightclub’s elevated beam structure while the iconic anthem “We Are The Champions” played in the background.

A tweet including the video was shared, captioned, “If you’re not celebrating doing pull-ups off the nightclub’s elevated beam structure while ‘We Are The Champions’ plays in the background, did you really win the event?”

Rublev’s run to the title in Bastad was by no means easy. He had to face formidable players such as Alexander Zverev and former champion and top seed Casper Ruud. His strictest test, however, came in the semifinals against defending champion Francisco Cerundolo. Rublev won the encounter in 3 tight sets, 2 of them being decided by a tie-break.

Fresh from his victory in the Swedish Open, Rublev is set to compete in the German Open. In his first-round match, he will face Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles. This will be the first meeting between Rublev and Miralles on the ATP Tour.

Rublev, as the second seed, enters the tournament with a clear advantage in terms of ranking, experience, and recent form. Swedish Open runner–up Ruud will be participating here as the top seed yet again. Fans may be in for a rematch between Rublev and Ruud in this tournament.

Andrey Rublev’s journey to the Swedish Open title is just one highlight of his remarkable season. The Russian player has consistently delivered impressive performances, elevating his ranking to World No. 7. Rublev’s success extends beyond the clay courts, as evidenced by his quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. In both campaigns, his run was cut short by Novak Djokovic.
