Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev has been targeted a lot by the media and tennis fanatics all around the world for his actions on the tennis court. From his outburst at the ATP Finals, where he was found hitting his knee with the tennis racquet, to the recent outburst with the chair umpire in the match against Holger Rune at the UTS Grand competition,

During the third quarter of the match, Rublev had to win that quarter at any cost to protect the game. With a score of 10-11in the third quarter, Rublev won the point, leveling things up, but initially, he was seen climbing the ladder to the chair umpire while he showed three fingers, which was a citation to the three-point card.

According to Rublev, he was the one who showed the three-point card as time was against him, but the umpires denied him the liberty to claim the points. 

The three-point card is a bonus card that players can actively use to claim three points instead of the usual one after winning a game. After having been denied the use of the three-point card, Rublev severely complained to the umpires and was later bashed for his actions by the fans on Twitter. 

Holger Rune’s take on his highly-contested match against Andrey Rublev

After having won the match against Andrey Rublev, Rune expressed his views on the incident that had taken place between the Russian and the umpire. Rune revealed the fact that he was left with absolutely no clue whatsoever about the commotion that took place.

I didn’t see if he raised his hand for the card. In the beginning, I had no idea what was happening, I thought he was complaining that it turned zero and he hadn’t taken it yet.

Rune also talked about how he never quite saw if or not Rublev raised his hand to activate the three-point card. And also agreed to understand the pain Rublev had gone through if the Russian did as he claimed to do.

Rune also concluded his statements by saying that he would like to be left away from such instances and that he doesn’t care about such actions.
