Andy Murray has been one of the greatest the game of tennis has ever seen. The two-time Olympic winner has created a legacy of his own. Though he is not celebrated like that the ‘Big Three’, there’s no denying that he is among the greatest. The two times Wimbledon winner has opened up about missing playing with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in a recent press meet.

Murray is set to start his 2024 campaign with the Brisbane International. Before the event gets underway, Murray was asked in the interview about facing Nole and Rafa in the Australian Open. To which the Brit said,

Obviously, I would like the opportunity to play against them again. Ideally in the latter stages of big tournaments. If I get the opportunity to practice with them, I still really, really enjoy that. It does bring back some good memories, but ideally, I’d want to be doing that in the tournaments, not in the first rounds.

Murray last faced Nadal in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters in 2016, where he beat the Spaniard in straight sets. On the other hand, Murray faced Nole last year in the Madrid Masters.

What’s in the cards for the next season for Andy Murray?

Murray hasn’t had a great 2023 season. He had won a couple of challengers during the season, yet he couldn’t live up to his exemplary stature. He also reached the finals of the Qatar Open, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Moreover, his performances in the Grand Slam events haven’t been up to the mark. He was eliminated from the third round of the Australian Open and the second round of the US Open and the Wimbledon.

Owing to his poor performances in the previous season, there have been echoes regarding his retirement. However, the Brit has made things pretty clear as he touched down in Brisbane. The 36-year-old opined that he would still like to play tennis and he could reach the likes of Rafa and Nole.

With this ambition, Murray is set to start his season with Brisbane International. The courts of Australia haven’t been too friendly to him as the Brit has lost in the finals of the Australian Open five times. However, he wants to turn things around this time by going big in the mega event.
