Andy Murray, the former world number one has cruised his way into the Round of 16 of the Swiss Indoors Open in Basel. He won against Roman Safiullin in his first-round match. He had also faced a third-round elimination at the US Open.
He hasn’t had much success throughout the year and his best performance was at the Stuttgart Open where he lost in the finals despite not dropping a set throughout the tournament. With the year inching closer to an end, the 3-time Grand Slam champion reveals his plan for the coming year. He hopes to improve his rankings while being consistent on the Tour.
Murray opened up about his thoughts on quitting tennis but later squashed them with retirement, not on the cards. He said “I know I was on the verge of never playing tennis again, but when I started to get into a rhythm I realized that it was possible. I have to be very careful with the way and the time of training. I think that this season has been positive because I have been able to play almost without injuries. I need to be more consistent, I would have liked my tennis to be better this year.“
He further added that “I want to think that I can continue to be competitive and that I just need to select my tournaments better to be more consistent. My main objective right now is to improve my ranking to be the top seed and not have to face great tennis players from the first round. This week at the ATP 500 Basel is very important to me because it can improve my ranking.“
Andy Murray registered his 26th win of the season after the first-round victory at Swiss Indoors

Andy Murray added another achievement of the year by achieving his 26th win of the season by winning the first-round match at the ATP 500 event. This is the first time he has played at this tournament in 17 years. He hasn’t won a singles ATP title since 2019.
He had earlier spoken about making changes in his tactics during the Gijon Open so that he could analyze his mistakes quickly and turn the game in his favor. He further said that he changed his way of playing as he took his game a notch higher to land himself on the winning side while struggling at times.
