Protests are being created around the world for multiple reasons. The current protests in headlines are the “Just Stop Oil” protests. It is an environmental activist group in the UK. Recently, they disrupted the Pride Parade, and seven arrests were made. Andy Murray said that he believes in this cause but not how they are expressing it, and he wouldn’t know how to react if someone disrupted the court.
Andy will be playing his first-round match on Tuesday against fellow British Ryan Peniston, who was awarded a wildcard to the tournament. The former World No. 1 said he was unsure of how his reaction would be if there was a disruption while he was playing. He said, “I don’t know, if somebody ran on to the court and came towards you, what your reaction would be to that because you don’t know who it is or what they are doing or why they are doing.’’
He also said they have to be a bit careful while going toward the tennis players because they have racquets in their hands. He has always been vocal about such topics and believes there is a good chance of them disrupting Wimbledon and creating a ruckus.
He said he agrees with the cause, just not how they go about it. ‘’I mean, I agree with the cause – just not always how they go about expressing it. Rather than running on the court, maybe they could do it a different way,” he said.

Wimbledon on their responsibilities and security

There is always security around players, on and off the court, to ensure their safety and to make sure there are no disruptions caused by anyone. Everyone who follows tennis knows about the horrifying incident that took place in 1993 at the Hamburg Open. A man ran onto the court and stabbed Monica Sales between her shoulder blades. Since that incident, security has drastically increased.
This year, Wimbledon has increased it more with extra checking of bags and banning spray paint, sprays for personal protection, glue, or items that could be used to ‘’sabotage or damage.’’ And they also urged players not to do a “Jonny Bairstow” by tackling protestors if they tried to disrupt and spray paint the grass.
Dite said Wimbledon was aware of its responsibilities towards the environment and says this is a defining challenge of our times. He further added, ‘’We are fully committed to playing our part. From using only renewable electricity and offering low-carbon options on our menus, to sending zero waste to landfills and promoting a culture of reuse, we’re working hard to achieve a positive environmental impact in all that we do.”
