British tennis player, Andy Murray came to the defence of the World No.6, Stefanos Tsitsipas after the CEO of Lacoste, Guibert Thierry posted a message on his social media handle, congratulating Jannik Sinner on his win by taking a sly dig at the Greek professional.

The Lacoste CEO called the incident of Stefanos Tsitsipas getting injured unfair, in his match against Jannik Sinner in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals in Turin. He wrote,

” Hats off to@janniksin for his win tonight. Despite the unfair behaviour of Tsitsipas, he showed to everyone why he is a future champ and an authentic guy.”

To this, the former World No.1 and two-time Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray lashed right back at him and stated,

The World No. 6 showed signs of an injury during his match with the Italian. He was seen limping and could not give his best as he lost to Sinner, 6-4,6-4. The Greek was not at the top of his game and later pulled out of the ATP Finals, giving way to Hubert Hurkacz to compete in the tournament in place of him.

Tsitsipas was not fully fit coming into the event and had also skipped the last practice prior to the start. However, he decided to fight on and played the first match. But the clash with Sinner was too much for the former champ who retired hardly 20-minutes into the match.

Andy Murray comes in support of Stefanos Tsitsipas, despite past differences between the two

The two tennis players first met in the round of 128 at the 2021 US Open. The Greek won this match in an epic 5-set thriller. However, the Briton was very unhappy with Stefanos Tsitsipas over the long toilet breaks that he took during their close encounter and accused him of disturbing the momentum of the game. Andy Murray even stated how he had lost respect for the Greek. This started a beef between the two.

However, Stefanos Tsitsipas in an interview said that this incident happened a long time ago and that he respected the three-time Grand Slam winner as well. The 2 have apparently overcome their differences and moved on. This is quite evident from the way Andy Murray stepped in to defend the Greek against the Lacoste CEO.
