Former World No. 1 Andy Murray criticizes the Grand Slams for making the players play late in the day just for financial reasons. That’s not all; as per the tennis legend himself, it’s not healthy for the players or the sport.
Due to broadcasting strategies, some matches are being held at times that are not ideal for the players. To accommodate different broadcasting schedules and maximize viewership, matches are sometimes delayed. Players have complained about it but have been shut down, says the former champ.
“It’s just not good for anyone. Often when the players complain about that stuff, you sort of hear like: ‘Oh, shut up and get on with it.’ Like, you know: ‘Try working, I don’t know, in a warehouse from nine to five,” said the British player.
Andy also acknowledged the audience’s concern about reaching home late. “I don’t think it helps the sport that much when everyone’s leaving because they have to go and get public transport home and you finish a match like that in front of like 10% of the crowd. You don’t see it in other sports so it’s wrong,” he further added.

Andy Murray slams Wimbledon and Grand Slams for late games

The British Icon, Andy Murray fires shots at Grand Slams as well as Wimbledon. He says that Wimbledon must stop their 20-minute timeouts or start the match a little earlier because it delays the players as well as the audience.
Andy also adds that there is little time for the players to recover from their match if there is a delay and it should stop for the benefit of the on-field viewers and players.“Wimbledon, they obviously need to change the start times of the matches and move it sooner. Stop having the 20 minute breaks between the matches. And I think that then becomes fair on the players because you can’t really expect someone to recover if you finish your match at 4:30 in the morning,” said the former champion.
Andy Murray, who has finally recovered from his injuries, will be seen playing in the US Open. He is one of the favorites heading into the tournament due to his impressive record on hard courts, especially at the US Open. However, there are many players like Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev, Medvedev, and Novak Djokovic. He has won the US Open before and can do it again if he maintains strong form heading into the tournament.
