Over the course of two days, an epic struggle took place at The Championships, with Andy Murray just missing out on victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas. On Thursday night, Murray was just one set away from advancing to the third round. The Wimbledon curfew, however, caused the match to be called off at 10:40 p.m., building tension and excitement for the contest’s continuation on Friday.
However, throughout the two days, the talking point was still the extra 20 minutes that were played yesterday before cutoff time was breached and the match was suspended. Murray had a slip and was really struggling to close out the match. The two-time Wimbledon winner was asked about the same in the post-game presser on whether he would have likened to play until 11:00. The Briton had a clear answer.
Murray said, “No, I didn’t necessarily think it was appropriate to keep going because it was highly unlikely we’d finish the match unless someone was to win the set. Sorry, it was unlikely someone was going to win that set in 20 minutes or 19 minutes, whatever we had left to play. It seemed like a reasonable time to stop.”

On Friday afternoon, there was a tangible sense of excitement when the players returned to the court. The participants’ fierce competition in the fourth set was on full display. Everything came down to a nail-biting tiebreak, when Tsitsipas displayed tremendous coolness, tying the game and setting the stage for a climactic final set.
Murray’s dreams were dashed early in the fifth set as Tsitsipas broke his serve. Murray was unable to defeat Tsitsipas despite his relentless resolve. After a torturous four hours and forty minutes, the Greek player held his ground and eventually won with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Murray was devastated by the loss, since he had been on the verge of an incredible comeback. Murray exhibited unflinching toughness throughout the entire match, but Tsitsipas proved to be a strong foe.
The Briton’s outstanding performance on the court will live on in the minds of spectators and other athletes. His tenacity and commitment continue to inspire despite the disappointment of an early exit. While this specific chapter may have come to an end, the three-time Major winner’s undying devotion to the game guarantees that he will continue to have a lasting impact.
