British tennis ace Andy Murray‘s mother Judy Murray has taken a jibe at the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak amid his promise for amendments to the UK Equality Act. As the UK General Elections near, Sunak has pledged to clarify the Equality Act to protect single-sex spaces. Referring to the same, Judy has hit at the UK PM for not doing it now.
Judy Murray shared a link talking about the piece of news and asked why the UK PM is not making the amendments now. The 64-year-old has asked why Sunak is waiting and what he is waiting for.
What are you waiting for? Do it now.Judy Murray said.
What has UK PM Rishi Sunak said and why is Judy Murray raising questions?
With the UK General Elections approaching, Rishi Sunak is planning to write a Tory leadership pledge to update the UK’s equality laws to protect single-sex spaces in the party’s election manifesto. This is not the first time Sunak has talked about this issue.
Back in 2022, the PM created a ‘manifesto for women’s rights’ when he unsuccessfully stood to be party leader against Liz Truss including pledges on women’s safety and opposition to biological males being allowed to compete against women in sport.
Now, after a poll suggested the Conservative Party is heading for the largest defeat in its history, Sunak has revived the talks. Too often, existing legislation is used to engage in social engineering to which no one has given consent. The worst offender in this regard is the 2010 Equality Act, conceived in the dog days of the last Labour government.Rishii Sunak said. (H/T: Daily Mail)
The UK PM has said that it has been a Trojan horse and promised that he will work to revive the Act to protect free speech and stop biological men from competing in women’s sports.
It has been a Trojan horse that has allowed every kind of woke nonsense to permeate public life. It must stop. My government would review the Act to ensure we keep legitimate protections while stopping mission creep. Our laws must protect free speech, block biological men from competing in women's sport and ensure that children are allowed to be children. The UK PM added.
Notably, the issues pertaining to trans women participating in women’s sports have become recurring with many prominent personalities objecting against it. Renowned British author JK Rowling has also raised her objections. Meanwhile, Judy Murray seems to be targeting the UK PM for using the issue for his benefit.
