At the Australian Open, he lost to Tomás Martín Etcheverry in 3 straight sets to start the year. This makes him the second Briton to fall prey in the first round, and he will only feature in the next tournaments.

After the disappointing loss, the Brit revealed to the Australian Press that he was stunned by the loss and couldn’t believe that the game finished that quickly. He had previously revealed having considered retirement if he did not play well. Retirement may seem like the way for the former champion as he continues to struggle with his form since 2023.

However, there are other Britons left in the tournament. Earlier, Jodie Burrage bowed out of the tournament, and Murray became the second Brit to bow out. Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, and Jack Draper are a few of the Britons yet to play their first-round match.
