Andy Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion managed to make his way into the quarter-finals of the 2022 Gijon Open as he defeated Pedro Cachin 2-6,7-5,7-6(3) in the Round of 16 clash. It will be his third quarter-final appearance of the year in the tournaments of the ATP Tour but has failed to win a single title in the year.

Murray seemed happy and amused after coming out as a winner in the thrilling and close battle where he had lost the first set. He even stated that he had to change his tactics quickly as he could analyze his mistakes. He further said that he changed his way of playing as he took his game a notch higher to land himself on the winning side while struggling at times. He even revealed that it was a very tough match for him since he has been looking to dig deep into most of the tournaments and is yet to win a title this year.

Murray said that “I think I served well in the second and third sets. I fought very hard. In the first set, I wasn’t playing my best and Pedro was serving very well for the first set and a half. I was really struggling to break serve. I changed the way I was returning to give myself more opportunities to break. I fought very hard to come back from a breakdown twice in the third set.

Murray defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets in the first round of the Gijon Open. He had even started off on a good note at the US Open where he cruised into the third round but failed to move further as he lost to Matteo Berrettini in 4-sets. Despite being consistent on the Tour, he hasn’t registered remarkable performances due to his lack of form and injuries which have been an area of concern since his second hip injury in 2019.

Murray has been part of the Big 3 era but has failed to win many Grand Slams despite making it to eleven major finals as he always lands up playing against either Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, or Roger Federer in the final encounter and as a result loses his chance of winning a title.
