Briton superstar Andy Murray is through to the Semi-finals of the Qatar Open after dispatching Frenchman Alexandre Muller: 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. After the third three-setter in a row, energetic Murray had some time for tennis trivia in the post-match interview on the court as well. The interviewer asked the Briton to recollect his first quarterfinal opponent in the ATP tour and he responded to it by answering not only his first quarterfinal opponent but also the semi-final and final opponents of the same tournament.
Murray said, “Let me think, I’m gonna say my first quarterfinal was in Bangkok and was it against Paradorn Srichaphan?” The interviewer responded that it was his semifinal opponent there. Murray paused for a moment and then continued, “(Robby) Ginepri“. Then the interviewer asked whom he faced in the finals. Murray without any hesitation responded, “I lost to Federer, I remember that one“.
Murray will face the unseeded Czech Jiri Lehecka in the semi-finals. His fighting spirit to keep pushing makes the Briton the favorite for this match-up. The experience and the ability to dictate the crucial points of the matches have made the Briton Veteran a different beast in this tournament. The tennis world is looking forward to how he can keep pushing through the rest of the tournament.

The British legend Andy Murray inspired a generation of tennis fans and other sportspeople with his performances against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis in the recently concluded Australian Open. Both the players are many years younger in age than the former World No.1. The match against the Australian went on for five sets and finished at 4 AM the next morning. However, he was able to beat both of them.
Hence, his performances against Lorenzo Sonego and Alexander Zverev at the Qatar Open 2023 are being seen in the same series of wonderful performances. Social media are also buzzing after these magnificent accomplishments. The final score against the Italian was 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). He had to save three match points en route to the victory. Against Zverev, Murray won by a scoreline of 7-6(7-5), 2-6, 7-5.
After winning the quarterfinal also in three sets, Murray will face the Czech Jiri Lehecka for the first time in his career. Lehecka overcame Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals to book the meeting with the Briton.
