British tennis sensation Andy Murray showed exceptional court coverage and fitness today in his second-round match of the ongoing US Open against Hungary’s Grigor Dimitrov to win a brilliant point in the first round. Tennis fans across the globe were stunned by his antics, which forced them to remember prime Andy Murray.
The point of concern came after a wonderful rally between the two players. Grigor Dimitrov’s shot hit the net and fell short on the rear end. Andy Murray ran at full pace and covered the entire court to play it back and win the point. The crowd’s reception and his reaction showed how good his effort was.
Andy Murray defeated Corentin Moutet in his first-round match pretty easily, winning the match 6-2, 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets. He has shown signs of a potential comeback in the last few tournaments but has sadly failed to go the distance every time.
In the 2023 Wimbledon, for instance, Andy Murray started off his second-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas pretty efficiently, and it seemed like he was going for the kill. Ultimately, though, he ended up giving up his lead. Hopefully, that won’t be the case in the US Open.
The former World No. 1 has had a long history of injuries, and the last hip injury that he suffered practically ruined his bright career. During his prime, Murray was undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players in the world and was in direct competition with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. Although he has gained the strength to return to tennis, he is visibly not his old self. However, glimpses of excellence like this now and then show how good Andy Murray really is.
Iga Swiatek turns down Andy Murray’s mixed doubles offer
The current WTA World No. 1, Iga Swiatek, turned down Andy Murray’s offer to play mixed doubles with her as she prefers to focus on singles only right now. Although many fans criticized her for disrespecting the legend, others appreciated her honesty.
“I wish I could play mixed doubles with Andy [Murray] but for me, singles is enough. I think Andy will forgive me,” Iga Swiatek said. However, she also said that she was grateful that Andy said such kind words about her, and it was like a dream come true. She claimed to have seen Andy’s games as a kid and went on to praise him.
