Andy Murray is back in a Tour final. Up against Jiri Lehecka in the semis of the ongoing 2023 Qatar Open, Murray won the match 6-0, 3-6, 7-6(8-6). The duo battled for two hours and 29 minutes before Murray won the match point having saved five during the tiebreaker.

This was Murray’s fourth consecutive three-set victory in Doha this week. It was also his sixth win of the season all of which have come in the deciding set. Of the six, three of them have come when he faced match points but managed to save them and win the match himself. The three-time Major winner has now gone four months without a straight-set win. Don’t however let it distract you from the fact that the 35-year-old has won marathon matches in the timeline.

Murray’s last straight-set win came in the 2022 Gijon Open‘s first round against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in October. Since then, he has been forced to go the distance. He becomes the first player to reach five finals in Doha and his first Tour final since June. A winner of 46 career titles, Murray is now one win away from his 47th title.
