Andy Murray has taken a supportive stand for his friend Dominic Thiem, who faced defeat in the first round of the 2023 BNP Paribas Open on Thursday. In 2019, Dominic defeated Roger Federer in the final of the Indian Wells which eventually is his only Master’s tournament. However, he has been not performing at his best lately. He received a wildcat entry in the 2023 BNP Paribas Open but faced defeat in the first round. Dominic faced Adrian Mannarino in the first round who later defeated him by 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Andy in his post-match interview said, “I talk to him regularly since he was injured, especially when he was away, and the truth is that it’s a very complicated situation he’s going through. He loves this sport above all else, we have shared some great battles on the court, and I think what is happening to him is something mental. He needs to win an important game to completely turn the situation around. Thiem was a tennis player who was characterized by consistency throughout his sporting career, I hope he can get back to his level, but it’s not easy.

Andy Murray enthusiastically complimented Thiem’s on-court performance. He is hoping for Thiem to return to his best performance as he has always been a top contender at the Grand Slam events. Thiem won the 2020 US Open Championship and will be a top player if he brings out his A-game. Furthermore, Andy added in his interview,But I hope that he can because he was challenging for Majors very regularly before the injury and there’s one specific shot that he’s struggling on now. For the rest of his game, there’s not a huge change physically. He still moves extremely well and everything. So, I hope that he can get back to the level that he was at, but it’s not easy”.
