Andy Murray looked extremely frustrated as he was leaving the court after his first-round exit from the China Open. The Brit was defeated by Alex de Minaur in 3 sets, 6-3, 5-7,7-6. Alex leads the head-to-head by 4-0 against the 3-time Grand Slam Champion, Murray.

Andy Murray was very furious with himself as he lost the opportunity to hold 3 match points against Alex. And the veteran’s out-of-control frustration showed when he broke his racket in a fit of anger.

In the 3rd set, Andy Murray was leading comfortably at 5-2 against the Australian, who showed intense grit to make an incredible comeback. Alex saved 2 match points at 2-5 on his serve and saved a third match point during the deciding set tiebreak at 5-6. After approximately 3 hours of play, Alex de Minaur went past Andy Murray to proceed to the next round of the China Open.

Andy Murray could not control his emotions in the deciding set of the match. He repeatedly broke his racket as he felt furious at himself for not being able to hold 3 match points that eventually gave away the match to the Australian. Murray however did not get any violation for his actions.

The 3 time Grand Slam Champion in an interview with Tennis Majors stated that he would like to finish his career with yet another strong Olympic performance.

Andy Murray has already won the Olympic Gold medal twice, once in Rio and the other in London, overcoming Roger Federer in the finals. He has not performed significantly well in this season, losing out in the early stages of most of the tournaments he has featured in. However, Andy Murray has had an incredible journey at the Olympics and hopefully, he can compete with the same vigor for one last time.
