Andy Murray, who was being watched by Roger Federer, expressed his happiness at returning to Center Court. As per the tennis sensation himself, he was quite nervous at the beginning of the match but once he was able to break the first set, he got into the flow. The British tennis sensation further added that he hopes to be in good shape for this year’s Wimbledon.

He said, “Obviously, it is amazing to be back here playing on Center Court. I started off the match quite nervously at the beginning; I want to do well here. But once I got the break in the first set, I played good tennis as the match went on. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt physically this good coming into Wimbledon. I hope I’m fit and ready for a good run.”

Reflecting on a previous encounter with Federer, Murray fondly recalled, “The last time I played on this court and Roger was watching was at the Olympics against Stan Wawrinka, and he was rooting against me! It was nice to have a few claps from him this time. I hope you’re doing well, Roger.”

It became clear that Federer had noticed Murray’s performance as he advanced to the second round. The Swiss master, who had defeated Murray in the Wimbledon final of 2012, kept a close eye on Murray as he played with increasing aggression and precision.

“It was nice to see a couple of claps today after some good shots. It was amazing. Hope you’re doing well Roger & Mirka & your parents as well” The interviewer asked if Roger approves of Andy’s performance.

The match against Ryan Peniston took place as Wimbledon was only able to play on Center Court and No. 1 Court due to the constant downpour. Unexpectedly, Murray was first under pressure because Peniston had breakpoint opportunities early on. Peniston missed these opportunities due to his hesitant approach, allowing Murray to demonstrate his ability to handle pressure.

Murray’s turning points occurred when he took advantage of his own opportunities to break Peniston’s serve, displaying his legendary tenacity and securing a convincing victory. The constant downpour may have dampened the mood, but Murray’s performance still stood out thanks to the crowd’s encouragement and Federer’s presence.

Murray can take heart from his physical condition, the support he received from the crowd, and the presence of tennis royalty because early indications point to a successful Wimbledon campaign for him. All eyes will be on Murray as the competition goes on to see if he can maintain his streak of defying expectations and add more memorable chapters to his Wimbledon story.
