Andy Murray’s devastating 2024 continues, as nothing goes right for the Brit. Recently, he even lost at the Miami Open against Tomas Machac.
During the match, the Brit took a medical timeout and soon finished the match. Over the last few days, he had been struggling with his ankle, and this time around, there was some bad news around the ankle.
After the match, Murray took to Instagram to speak about the severity of the injury. As per the tennis professional himself, he suffered two major injuries to his ankle. However, it might be more challenging for Murray, who was rather bullish about his injury and return.
According to a sports orthopedic in London, Suresh Chandrashekhar, Murray might take longer than usual to return.
The doctor had stated the importance of the injured ankles and how their recovery might be longer than expected, resulting in Murray’s absence from Wimbledon. Furthermore, his ankle can withstand normal human activities like walking and running, but playing tennis might be a doubt, given that the sport requires a lot of movement in the ankles.
But returning to sport, where there are pivoting movements, twisting, changing directions just like Murray does… you may struggle.Said Doctor Chandrashekar via inews.
Keyhole surgery is the one likely option that the Brit can take, but with Wimbledon only three months and a week away, there are rising concerns about his comeback at the right time. Though Murray was optimistic about his return, the facts speak against it.
Fans are worried that retirement urgency might force him to make wrong decisions
There have been many questions revolving around Andy Murray’s recent injury and his timely return. With the Brit already contemplating retirement, these injuries may be a major reason behind any decision he makes.
While Murray revealed that he will return soon, the doctor from London said otherwise. The doctor had explained that Murray injured his CFL and ATFL tissues, which are extremely vital for ankle rotation. While the CFL helps with the stability of the hindfoot, the ATFL is responsible for ankle rolling.
Due to this, Murray is expected to undergo surgery but might be just short of time before Wimbledon. He did return well after the hip injury, but the race is still on with the ankle injuries. It is the race between his recovery and time, which also will decide his future in the sport.
Fans worry that due to this race, Murray might make some quick decisions that will hurt him worse in the future.
