Andy Murray has won three correct challenges in three points against Denis Shapovalov in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championship. The Briton had lost the first set 4-6 but gained incredible momentum and eventually bagged the match by 4-6, 6-7, 3-6.
The World No. 50 earned his first win a few days ago in Doha after defeating Alexander Muller 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). With that being said, it seems like Murray is hoping to add another win in Dubai.
The British star had struggled to capitulate on Denis Shapovalov’s sluggish start which led him to smash his racquet on the hard court.
The drama that led to the British legend winning three points in three challenges was unbelievable. Murray’s first serve was thought to be out by the umpire, but after review, it was changed because the ball had touched the line.
The second was the left-center serve, which was also deemed out by the umpire but was changed to in after review.
Then the third challenge was when Denis hit the ball to the right baseline, which was deemed in by the umpire but, after a major review, was said to be out.
Andy Murray earns first win of the 2024 season in Qatar Open
Andy Murray earned his first match win of the 2024 season, beating Alexander Muller 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) at the Qatar Open. After losing his six previous matches, the Briton overcame an injury scare in the middle of the first set to put on his best performance of the season so far.
The 36-year-old had insisted that he would not retire from tennis yet after criticism of his run of bad form earlier. But all that has changed with his turning-point victory in Doha. Speaking during the on-court interview, the former Wimbledon champion said that he hopes the victory over Alexandre Muller will change his poor form in tennis.
The last few months have been really tough on the court for me. I've not won many matches and lost a lot of close ones as well. It was getting tight at the end there as well, so delighted to get through. So many people came out to watch for a first round, which is brilliant.Said Murray
The British star lost the first round 4-6 but clawed his way back in the second set 7-6 and eventually bagged the match in the third set 3-6.
