Andy Murray has been one of the greatest the game of tennis has ever seen. The two-time Olympic winner has created a legacy of his own. Though he is not celebrated like the ‘Big Three’, there’s no denying that he is among the greatest.

The Brit has faced numerous injuries in the past few years, which have hampered his career. Being at the twilight of his career, Murray has stated in an interview that people won’t be bothered by his farewell as much as they as during Roger Federer or Serena Williams‘ farewell.

In the interview with BBC 5, Murray said,

I don't know, to be honest, I probably wouldn't. As I get it more, like. when you're Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal or Serena Williams, or whatever like these. You know, everyone wants to see them one last time, probably not quite the same for me. So, if I was announcing my farewell tour tomorrow… I'm not sure how many people would be bothered (laughs)… maybe in the UK.

Murray started off his 2024 season with the Brisbane International. He was up against Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 32. The Bulgarian defeated the Brit in two consecutive sets to clinch the game. He will be next featured in the Australian Open starting from 14th January.

A look at the 2023 season of Andy Murray

The two-time Olympic gold winner has a legendary stature of himself. It is pretty much certain that his name would be in the same chapter as that of Rafael Nadal or Federer.

Going by this standard he has set for himself, he has not lived up to the mark in 2023. He won a couple of challengers during the season and also reached the finals of the Qatar Open. In the finals, he lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.

Moreover, his performances in the Grand Slam events have been poor. His performances in the Majors this year include a third-round exit from the Australian Open and second-round exits from the US Open and Wimbledon.

These poor results for Murray have resulted in the critics and tennis pundits referring to his retirement. However, Murray has clearly stated that he will continue to play and believes that he can reach the likes of Rafa and Novak Djokovic.
