Tennis legend Andy Roddick has heaps of praise for Andy Murray, who displayed his trademark grit during his third-round clash at the Miami Open. The Brit suffered a dramatic loss to Tomac Machac to see his way out of the tournament.

For context, after suffering a hip issue in 2019, Murray has not been at his best and has lost early in multiple tournaments. He even started 2024 on a four-match losing streak and struggled to get wins under his belt.

However, Murray soon improved his game and started winning a couple of matches, but not enough to count as a deep run.

This week’s Miami Open was a change of fortune for Murray, who managed to register his first back-to-back wins in a tournament. After the hip injury, the world witnessed a changed Murray, who had struggled to get wins, but Andy Roddick saw Murray as a gutsy player who made his way through the last four to five years.

Roddick had shared his thoughts on Murray’s grand exit from the Miami Open after suffering a dramatic loss against Tomas Machac in the third round. Along with Steve Weissman and Monica Puig, Roddick had a few kind words for Murray.

Since 2019 with the hip issue, he would tell you he hasn’t been the same, but the guts of him has been the same. Even if he used to turn these matches and pull them out, and lately he hasn’t been able to. The drama is still there, the fight is still there. In a weird way, this kind of compromised version of Murray adds to his legacy. the way he's grinded out the last four, five years.

Murray displayed his usual girt during the match. The match went to three sets, with Murray winning only the first. He did his best to push the match, but the third-set tie-break was hard for the Brit, who lost 7-5, 5-7, 6(5)-7.

After the match, Murray took his time to thank the brilliant Miami crowd as he stepped out of the court for possibly the last time. The Brit had already revealed his decision to consider retirement after the summer, and this might be the last time that the Miami crowd would see Murray.
