Former tennis player Mark Petchey opined that World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is the best first server in the history of tennis. But he was directly questioned by ex-player Andy Roddick who thinks instead of the Serb, Pete Sampras deserves the first place.

Djokovic, although he has lifted a whopping 23 Grand Slam titles, is not included in the list of the best servers. But he had improved a lot under Goran Ivanisevic.

And during his match against Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, Petchey took to Twitter to declare Djokovic as the best server. “Starting to think that @DjokerNole is the best 1st server the sport has ever seen.” Many fans do not seem to agree with him.

Roddick also had a different opinion. He replied with: “Pete Sampras would like a minute of your time……. Nole is amazing but this is a reach. Also, I’m shorter than Nole.”

It’s worth noting that Roddick and Djokovic were involved in a war of words back in 2008 in the quarter-final match at the US Open. Roddick made fun of the 36-year-old by saying how he distracts his opponents with injuries such as cramps, bird flu, and even SARS. After winning the match, Djokovic shot back by saying he won the match because he did not have those “16 injuries” Roddick had mentioned.

Novak Djokovic arrived at the All England Club after a successful French Open campaign where he clinched his record 23 Grand Slam titles by beating Casper Ruud. He defeated Pedro Cachin in straight sets in the first round before knocking out Jordan Thompson in straight sets in the next round. Stan Wawrinka crashed out after losing in straight sets in the third round.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion will face Poland’s Hurkacz on Sunday (July 9) in the fourth round on Centre Court. The Serb has met the Pole five times only to emerge victorious in all the matches.

Many tennis fans are hoping for a final blockbuster between the Serb and Spain’s young sensation Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic’s winning the final will make him an eight-time Wimbledon champion and will tie the tally with 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. Federer stands atop with eight Wimbledon titles in Men’s Singles category. Djokovic is also a four-time defending champion at the All-England Club.
