Former World No. 1 Andy Roddick found himself forced to defend his comment. The former US Open winner has been currently smashing with his podcast, Served with Andy Roddick.

In the latest episode, he had invited tennis agent Max Eisenbud. He’s famous for having managed Grand Slam title winners Maria Sharapova, Li Na, and currently Emma Raducanu to name a few. The duo talked about various things and the GOAT debate was one of the topics.

The former World No. 1 has been one of the rare analysts and pundits to admit 24-time singles Major winner Novak Djokovic has already ended the debate and is the GOAT. But many others, primarily fans of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, don’t agree and continue to debate.

During the podcast, Roddick drew a parallel between Nole and Yoko Ono, singer and wife of John Lennon. Roddick felt as Ono is blamed for disbanding the Beatles, the Serb did the same with the Federer-Nadal rivalry.

For the ones who heard the entire podcast, it won’t be difficult to comprehend that in no way Roddick wanted to insult Djokovic. He rather went on to praise him before claiming anyone who doesn’t side with the current World No. 1 is an insane human.

If you line up these 3 resumes, and if you choose any of them but this ONE (Novak), you’re an insane human.
Was the exact comment of Roddick on the podcast.

But a certain section of Djokovic fans found the comment insulting towards their favorite player. Many others chose to just use the clip of the American comparing Nole to Yoko, which if seen without context, would certainly look offensive to Djokovic. Frustrated with the misquoting, Roddick gave a stern reply.

I did. You just didn’t listen to the pod. You listen to the insane people who want to be offended even someone is praising their person ….. will only reply from here on out w actual clips (not chopped and cherry picked ones) and quotes from our Novak segment. I was one of the first to declare GOAT race over publicly a couple of years ago after he won Wimby.

Andy Roddick re-declares picking Novak Djokovic as the GOAT

As biased Djokovic fans continued to criticize Roddick without going through the entire video, the American tried to reason with a few of them. But he understood, there was no point in explaining.

As a result, he simply put out another tweet where he explained his stance yet again. As many debate for Federer and Nadal based on their overall impact and legacy, Roddick believed the stats don’t lie and they are clearly better for Djokovic.

Lots of rage from the fanbase of the person Im complimenting hahaha Up is down, down is up. But anyways, Math doesn’t care about feelings. His is the resume you’d take. No questions asked.

As is the case with every player, some fans are reasonable while others simply refuse to see the overall picture. Roddick was caught up in a similar situation and might continue to get dragged into debates over the next few days for a harmless comment that he made.
