American former tennis player Andy Roddick recently tweeted about the controversy over the US president’s son Hunter Biden and his federal offenses. Some of the offenses include tax evasion and illegal arms possession.

In the tweet, Roddick said that the matter is rather straightforward. He claims that there is undeniable evidence of Hunter Biden committing those offenses. As a result, Roddick believes that he ought to face more serious charges than those currently imposed on him.

“If you don’t listen to this laying out of what’s actually happened, I don’t want to hear your take on the issue. It’s pretty straightforward. He’s not innocent, and has been investigated by a Trump appointee. Comparing this to federal indictments, business fraud, Saudi billions etc is laughable. And I repeat, that doesn’t mean he’s innocent of wrongdoing,” Roddick tweeted.

What is the Hunter Biden tax return controversy?

Hunter Biden’s tax returns examination has had its fair share of controversy and allegations. Two Internal Revenue Service (IRS) investigators recently testified in front of Congress about this issue. They claimed that the probe was hampered for political reasons by Justice Department officials. These claims suggest that Hunter Biden, being the son of US President Joe Biden, was treated favorably. According to them, Hunter should have faced more serious accusations.

Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, the two whistleblowers, are IRS employees. They’ve all played important roles in the investigation of Hunter Biden’s tax returns. During their testimony, both whistleblowers claimed that impartial decisions that favored Biden were made during the investigation.

According to the whistleblowers, the IRS has previously suggested prosecuting Hunter Biden with multiple tax fraud felonies. The US government attorneys in Washington, DC, and California, however, did not act on these recommendations. As part of a plea bargain, US Attorney David Weiss filed charges against Hunter Biden. However,  Biden was only charged with misdemeanors that do not carry a prison sentence, rather than the other felonies he committed.

During the whistleblower hearing, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin argued that the whistleblowers’ concerns are common disagreements between investigators and prosecutors.

Raskin admitted that Hunter Biden made “foolish and criminal decisions,” but claimed that he is being held criminally responsible for his activities. Democrats also pointed out that many of the alleged instances of illegal interference occurred during Trump’s presidency, while Joe Biden was a private citizen.

The Justice Department and the White House have both denied any meddling in the inquiry. They’ve also stressed that President Biden isn’t involved in his son’s business affairs.
