Former Word No.1 American tennis player Andy Roddick believes the hype for the 2023 Cincinnati Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic could not have been overstated and hailed it as one of the best games ever played as the game had everything fans could ask for. Hailing the two players for their determination and grit, Roddick felt that it was the most physical and well-executed game of tennis one could ever witness.
Notably, the summit clash of the Cincinnati Masters went for a massive three hours and 49 minutes, and every minute of it was filled with drama. While Carlos Alcaraz started the game with a 7-5 win in the first set, Novak Djokovic upped his game in the second set, claiming it 9-7 in the tiebreaker.
In the decider, the Serbian tightened his grip but Alcaraz was up for the challenge. The 20-year-old did not let Djokovic walk away with an easy win and forced it into the tiebreaker as well. However, a momentary lapse from the Spaniard meant Djokovic won the final set 7-6 (7-4) and eventually the game.
The 36-year-old then let out a loud roar and ripped his shirt apart in joy. The fans, meanwhile, were left awestruck. Roddick too was running high on adrenaline when he was asked if it was the greatest two sets in a three-set match. The American said that while he can’t claim that, he surely believes that the two players justified the hype around the matchup.
“I am not sure if it is but I also don’t think you are nu*s for saying this in the moment. That’s not hyperbolic at all. That’s one of the most physical, well-executed battles, full of drama…It was everything you’d have wanted. We hype up a lot of match-ups and we get carried away sometimes but I don’t know if the hype could’ve overstated for this one,” said Roddick.

Andy Roddick and Chanda Rubin can’t get enough of Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz

Andy Roddick and former American tennis women’s star Chanda Rubin agreed that they could not get enough of this epic battle between two of the current best players in the world. While Roddick called it a perfect game, Rubin took it a notch higher calling it insane. “It was insane at moments. I am in the studio screaming,” said Rubin.
The American then also remembered the epic clash at the Wimbledon final between Djokovic and Alcaraz and hoped to see more of this at the 2023 US Open. “On the heels of the Wimbledon final they have this match in Cincinnati, boy I am looking forward to the US Open and hoping to see another one.”
