The conditions of the tennis ball have always been an issue in the sport, more so in recent times. Many players find it extremely difficult to play tennis with low-quality balls. Not only are their matches at risk due to this factor, but their injury risks also increase.
Recently, Andy Roddick took up this issue again on X. Featuring the balls going to be used at the upcoming Indian Wells, the American pointed out the poor quality of the balls. Not from the players, but supposedly two top coaches texted Roddick, showing the quality of the tennis ball.

In the picture posted by the former American ace, the ball was fluffed up, which usually happens after a few games. Surprisingly, these were pictures taken after the short warm-up.
Have gotten two texts from two of the top coaches on earth in the last hour saying how bad the balls are at Indian Wells. Apparently, this was after and handful of minutes of a warmup. How has this problem not been fixed over time?Roddick on X
Despite the increased prize pool for the Indian Wells, the conditions of the ball seem low. The tournament increased the prize money by 2.22% compared to that of last year, but the condition of their tennis balls remains low. Roddick pointed this out, calling out the organizers for not taking care of the issue. This issue has been going on for many months, as players continue to complain about the difficult conditions due to the tennis ball. Despite the complaints, there has been no attempt to providing any solution by the organizations.

Recently, the American pointed out the devastating quality of the tennis balls used for the upcoming Indian Wells, as he hints at a possible topic of discussion for another episode on his podcast “Served”. There have been multiple complaints about this issue, as players find themselves struggling with the bad quality of balls.
The balls not only get harder to play with, but they increase injury risks for an athlete, who has to adjust his or her grip and shots for the ball. Despite the multiple complaints, the ATP has not yet resolved this issue, adding more to the disappointment of the players.
