American player Andy Roddick weighs in on Rafael Nadal becoming the president of the Real Madrid football club. Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam title champion, is a fervent fan of Real Madrid. Although he hails from Manacor, Spain, he has repeatedly shown great support for the Real Madrid team.
Recently, there have been talks that the current president of the club, Florentino Perez, might retire and that the Spaniard might covet the position of president of the club.
This is not the first time his name has been attached to this proposition. Earlier in 2017, he had even commented on the same. Speaking with El Mundo, he said, “If you ask me if I would like it, of course I would; why not? But there is more to it. I think it will not be. We are very good as we are. We have a great president right now, and I don’t think Real Madrid needs me. But we never know what can happen in the future. It is not something I can raise today.”
As there are also rumors that Nadal might hang his racquet in 2024, this seems to be the perfect path for him. Former US Open winner Andy Roddick also gave his opinion on the matter at hand. In a conversation with Tennis Channel Live, he discussed the possibility of Nadal becoming the possible president of the football club.
The American player compared the situation to that of John Elway and the Broncos, but the difference was that John Elway had experience as an NFL player and had played for the same team for quite some time. He believes that some necessary job experience would be needed to manage the team, but apart from that, it would be “cool” to see the 37-year-old in a new role.
He further stated that he didn’t know much about what goes into becoming president, but he did find it surprising. He said, “I can’t pretend to know what will go on or what in the world he would have to learn, but this is a surprising headline.”

Rafael Nadal Injury Update
The former World No. 1 player is currently recovering from the surgery he went through to heal his psoas muscle. Nadal revealed in June that he would undergo surgery and finally address the injury that has been causing him pain for as long as 5 years. His recovery period will be about 5 months, and therefore he will be unable to participate in any tournament in 2023.
The tennis legend might make a comeback at the French Open in 2024 to reclaim his Title of “King of Clay“. He might be looking to break his own record of winning the French Open 14 times. Fans have also suspected that 2024 might be his year of retirement.
