Ons Jabeur found support in a heartfelt message from former World No.1, Andy Roddick, after a tragic Wimbledon title loss. The World No. 5 fought tooth and nail this year to reach the Wimbledon final. Her journey to the final was filled with Grand Slam winners, and she faced top-seeded players on the court to emerge victorious. She defeated former US Open winner Bianca Andreescu in the third round. In the fourth round, she faced two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova.
The Tunisian then clashed with defending champion Elena Rybakina. The match started off in Rybakina’s favour, with her taking the first set. However, Jabeur fought back to take the remaining two sets and won 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-1. Winning the semi-final was also not an easy feat, as she was up against World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka. Beating her Belarusian opponent, she reached the final of Wimbledon for the second consecutive year. The 28-year-old could not put up a fight against Marketa Vondrousovain in the finals and was met with a devastating defeat.
Andy Roddick, who himself has been a Wimbledon finalist three times, understood her position more than anyone else. He recently revealed that he had penned a heartfelt note to the former World No. 2 after her defeat to the Czech player.
He also shared that he was quite impressed and inspired by her story. On his blog for Betway, he wrote that she had a lot to be proud of as she hailed from Tunisia and had therefore paved the way for people in her part of the world. He then revealed the contents of the message he had sent her after her loss. “I actually sent her a message after the final and said, “Listen, if you ever want to chat, I’ve been where you are right now. But I have more faith in you winning Wimbledon than I ever had in myself winning Wimbledon.”
Andy Roddick Is Ons Jabeur’s Idol

On the same blog, Roddick also wrote that he genuinely wishes that Jabeur would win a Grand Slam title someday.
Jabeur has not played a match since the Wimbledon final. She was to participate in the Canadian Open but withdrew due to an injury. He wished that she would take time to recover and slowly prepare herself for the US Open. He wrote, “I just hope she doesn’t feel the need to rush back. Take a breath, take a minute, make sure you prepare, and keep your fitness going. There are still a few weeks leading up to the US Open.”
What really makes his well-wishes special is that Jabeur has stated that Andy Roddick has been her idol since childhood. She was once quoted as saying that, “For some reason, I was watching him a lot when I was young.“I like his humour on court. The personality matches and I love his serve. I love the way he’s competitive on court.” They say never meet your heroes, but in Jabeur’s case, that doesn’t quite ring true.
