Andy Roddick rejects any claims that his comment about Gael Monfils was hurtful. Novak Djokovic won a historic 19th consecutive match against Gael Monfils at the Cincinnati Open. He set the record for most wins without a defeat against a player. He surpassed Rafael Nadal’s 18-0 record against Richard Gasquet.
Andy Roddick has been making frequent appearances on the Tennis Channel to give his insightful commentary. In one such instance, he joked about Monfils’s record against the former World No. 1 player. He was quoted as saying, “Novak’s record against Gael Monfils can almost legally drink in this country. Okay, jokes aside, it was no fault of Monfils’. It was clinical from Novak, sharp from start to finish.”
This did not go down well for some fans. One of them tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that his commentary was “nasty” and “hateful”. Andy Roddick dismissed any such claim by making a quip about himself. He replied, Yeah, how could I possibly understand if people publicly stated that I had a lopsided record against one of the greats? I’m not sure how I’d deal with it.”
This was a direct reference to his own record against tennis legend Roger Federer. The former US Open champion was sarcastically poking fun at his abysmal 3-21 record with the Swizz star.
The fan was persistent in his opinion and further tweeted that his commentary went beyond the realm of facts and that instead of being professional, he was insulting the French player. The American dismissed any claim that he was unprofessional or insulting. He said that he stated the facts humorously. He added further justification by tweeting that if the person had seen the actual video, they would know that he also praised Monfils for his comeback.
Andy Roddick is “Continually Amazed” by Novak Djokovic.

Andy Roddick hails World No. 2 Novak Djokovic for his technical abilities and skill. The American remarked that he feels amazed by the Serb’s ability to pick up right where he left off. He also added that the tennis star makes it seem way easier than it actually is.
Djokovic has currently reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open by defeating World No. 9 Taylor Fritz in straight sets with an impressive score of 6-0, 6-4. He will face 16th seed Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on August 19.
