Andy Roddick, the former world number 1 and the last American to win the US Open, recently navigated through choppy waters. With a huge history with Novak Djokovic and his fan base, the American presented the 2023 US Open trophy to the Serb. The fans bashed the former champ for presenting the trophy and he replied to them in a classy manner.
Andy Roddick and Novak Djokovic have a long-standing rivalry that goes way back. Both the players have had an equal share of wins against each other. Their H2H is 5:4 with Andy leading the battle. Novak fans commonly known as Nolefam have bashed the American for supposedly looking unhappy while presenting the US Open title to Djokovic.
“I say that it was an honor to present the trophy. I know that I wouldn’t have been a lot of his fans’ first choice, but I’m the one that said yes, and showed up. Am continually amazed by his accomplishments. In that scenario my job is to sit back and not be noticed until my duty of handing the trophy over” said Andy Roddick on Twitter to the hate comments.
American Andy Roddick gives back to a fan over an article dispute

Before the US Open match between Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, FirstSportz had released an article titled “Is US Open schedule rigged just to give home favorite Taylor Fritz an advantage against Novak Djokovic? Andy Roddick breaks down how the day matches would benefit Fritz”. To this a fan had tried to make a big deal of the word ‘rigged’ but Andy Roddick gave back to the fan in his style. “Tell you what … I fully disagree with the premise that we can’t be responded to directly if we choose to post something. Couldn’t disagree more with the framing of the headline of article you posted. But you’re obviously upset. Happy to delete my responses if you say so.” said Roddick
The former champion did not hesitate to back down when it came to taking a stand for himself. He gave back where it mattered and let his actions do the talking. Where many would have lost their cool, Roddick kept his calm and did not create a nuisance on the internet. These actions speak heavily of the fair-play attitude of Andy and how he does not hold grudges on players.
