20-time Grand Slam title winner Roger Federer needs absolutely no introduction when it comes to the tennis world, but something unusual happened last year at Wimbledon. Federer visited London for a doctor’s checkup, and he wanted to have tea at the Centre Court before flying back to Switzerland. However, the tennis sensation was stopped from entering because he didn’t have his membership card on him.
He narrated this incident on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah with the tennis world going wild on how he was held back from watching the same competition that he has won eight times. Now Roger Federer was seen visiting the Centre Court with his membership card on him this time and he posted the picture on his Twitter handle with the caption, “I remembred it this time” tagging Trevor Noah.
Former tennis player Andy Roddick replied by saying, “I still say they shouldn’t let you in” taking a dig at his longtime rival and friend.
Andy Roddick and Roger Federer have shared some great moments at the Centre Court, with the duels facing each other four times on the grass court. Roddick unfortunately lost all four of them, with the heaviest of losses coming at the 2009 Wimbledon final, when he led the match by two sets to nil but went on to bottle the lead after that.
Will the legacy of Roger Federer at Wimbledon ever be matched?
When it comes to the talks about Wimbledon, Roger Federer’s name will always come at the top of the pile for the dominance the Swiss had inflicted in his starting days beating the likes of Agassi, Sampras and many others. He dethroned all the top players during that time to win the competition in five successive years from 2003 to 2007.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
He still holds the record for the most number of matches won at the competition by any man in the singles category, as well as the record for the most finals appearances in the competition. With his last final appearance way back in 2019, when he and Novak Djokovic gave the world an absolute classic of a clash, it was sadly the last of his dominance in the tournament.
