Danish tennis star Holger Rune‘s mother, Aneke Rune is quite elated about the 20-year-old’s performance at the 2024 Indian Wells. As Rune made it to the quarterfinals and improved upon his performance from the previous outings at the Masters tournament, his mother was happy with the progress.
Aneke Rune put out a story on Instagram, lauding her son. She heaped praise on the 20-year-old for “getting better for each match”. Notably, Holger Rune made it to the quarterfinal at the Indian Wells Open this year on the back of emphatic wins in the first four rounds.
While Rune was given a bye in the first round, he got a walkover from Milos Raonic in the second round. In the third round, the Dane was pitted against Lorenzo Musetti and he comfortably won the match. Rune beat Musetti in straight sets and then ousted Taylor Fritz in the pre-quarterfinals to meet Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinal.
Although Rune lost to the Russian ace, his mother was happy about the progress he made. She shared a post from Tennis TV showing Rune winning a point against Medvedev in the quarterfinal and also wrote a caption, praising the youngster.
Great tennis this year. Getting better and better for each match, so let's continue the good work @holgerrune.Aneke Rune wrote on Instagram.
Holger Rune doing better despite hiccups
The 2024 season has fared decently for Holger Rune so far. Although there have been a few hiccups for the 20-year-old Dane, Rune has managed to put them aside while being on the tennis court. He started the season with a finals qualification at the Brisbane International.
However, Rune failed to go deeper at the 2024 Australian Open as the Danish ace was shocked by Arthur Cazaux in the second round. The Dane made it to the semifinals of the Montpellier Open but bowed out of the Rotterdam Open after a defeat in the second round.
Rune emerged at the Mexican Open, going all the way to the semifinals where he lost to Casper Ruud. The Danish ace then carried the good form into the 2024 Indian Wells and made it to the quarterfinal, his best-ever showing at the Masters tournament.
