‘Another twist in the tale’ Ash Barty signs up for the Global Golf Tournament 2022

Retired tennis player Ash Barty continues to keep her fans puzzled with her career move ever since she announced her retirement from tennis at the age of 25. Having won 3 Grand Slam titles including her home slam, the Australian Open, Barty stunned the entire world when she decided to call it quits despite being the World No. 1 for more than two consecutive years.
Since then, multiple career options have been speculated for the Australian but no concrete announcement has come from the player herself. Having featured and won in a local Golf tournament and given her fiance Garry Kissick himself is a golfer, it was widely believed the couple will play together.
Barty however did not give any confirmation and instead announced that she will be launching her own series of children’s books. With another twist in the tale, fans were kept on the edge on what will the player actually do. Amidst this chaos, the player has decided to take another shot in a golf tournament and this time it won’t be local.
Barty has signed up for the Rest of the World Team in the upcoming Icons Series, a nine-hole team match-play tournament at the famous Liberty National Golf Club, New Jersey from June 30-July 1. It will be an exhibition tournament with Team World going against Team USA and Barty will be joined by the English Football team’s captain Harry Kane along with former Spanish player and currently the manager of the Manchester City Football Club, Pep Guardiola.
Ash, Harry and Pep will be captained by the legendary Ernie Els for the 3-day exhibition event. “They’re (fans) going to see some familiar faces in an unfamiliar role, so that’ll be interesting! But these guys are used to performing under pressure so I have faith they’ll rise to the challenge and we’ll see some good golf out there. The matches will be competitive, but played in the right spirit. It’s going to be fun to be a part of and definitely fun to watch,” said Ernie speaking with Sportsmail.
Ash Barty had stunned Tiger Woods with her golfing skills
While Barty has definitely proved her skills in tennis and impressed a whole lot of tennis legends, the Australian also shocked Tiger Woods, arguably the greatest Golfer the world has ever seen. “She’s got a great swing, are you kidding me?” Woods had reacted when Barty hit a wedge shot in an exhibition event in Melbourne in 2020.
With talent at her disposal and enough time to pursue another career, it will be interesting to see if the Icons Series turns Barty completely into pursuing her ambition as a golfer and try her hand as a Pro in a third sport having played Cricket and Tennis already.
