Novak Djokovic recently won his 7th Wimbledon crown to inch ahead of Roger Federer’s tally of 20 grand slams. The Serbian now stands at 21 grand slams, just one behind the leader of the pack, Rafael Nadal. Djokovic beat Australian Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) to capture the title.
Due to his “not-vaccinated status,” Djokovic had a very difficult start to this year at the Australian Open 2022 and was deported from the country. After that, he received notice that he would be prohibited from playing in Australia for the following three years. Unvaccinated players will not be permitted to participate in the 2022 US Open, this has been made clear by the US Government. However, Djokovic is still holding out hope that some judgments will go in his favor and maintain his chance to play.

Serbian authorities to be Novak Djokovic’s last hope to compete at the US Open
Although Novak Djokovic expects himself to be barred from competing at the US Open next month, he may attempt a last-ditch effort by requesting assistance from Serbian authorities. Currently, unvaccinated foreigners are prohibited from entering the United States. As per a US statute, exceptions can be made only if they serve the national interest.
The authority to grant an exemption is wielded by several people in the US government. 2 American politicians have started to pressurize President Joe Biden to make the exemption and further assistance by Serbian leaders could expedite the process.
The possibility of Djokovic’s potential exemption could stir debate in the United States but as of now, Djokovic’s participation at the US Open is still hanging in the balance.
