World No. 78 Marta Kostyuk has been one of the most active Tour players on social media platforms often questioning and putting forth her opinions on various issues. The Ukrainian has been a strong advocate of banning the Russian and Belarusian players and as a result, has engaged in a lot of debates with many Twitter users over the ongoing war.

This time, however, Marta talked about the disparity in prize money in the sport with the events on the ATP Tour making considerably much more than what the same category events offer as prize money on the WTA Tour. As a result of her tweet, a big debate took place with many in support of her opinion while others explained to her why the difference exists in the offered prize money by various events.

While the debate over the prize money in the sport has been going on for a long while, there has been no common ground found yet. While the Grand Slams have in fact made the prize money equal, Tour events continue to have varied prize money as per the available sponsors. Marta Kostyuk put up a photo comparing the prize money of the ATP event in Halle to the same of WTA event in Berlin, both being the 500-point events and captioned it with a question asking, “Are we that bad?”
