“It’s not a good behavior,” Arthur Fils issues apology for ‘yelling’ and ‘insulting’ ATP supervisor only a day after Andrey Rublev’s disqualification

While Rublev was disqualified from the tournament, Fils was just given a warning for similar kind of offense.

Arthur Fils, one of the most talented players on tour, has written an apology after he lost his calm during a match at the Chile Open over the court conditions. During his match against Pedro Martinez, Fils lost his cool as he got angry over the condition of the court.

During the changeover, the Frenchman questioned the supervisor’s position to comment on the quality of the court. The situation was similar to that of Andrey Rublev, who defaulted from the Dubai Tennis Championships tournament and even had to give up all his points and prize money earned.

Unlike Rublev, Fils was just sent off with a warning. Fils eventually ended up losing the match, and a few hours later took to his Instagram to apologize for his actions.

I wanted to apologize for my irritation yesterday, it's not a good behavior. To clarify everything, I wasn't annoyed by the bad bounces on the court. This can happen anywhere. I was especially worried because of an injury felt during the game due to the state of the court. Risking your season because of a dangerous court is not something pleasant for all high-level athletes. I hope you guys will understand. Have to do some exams now and see you probably in IW

Fans were extremely unhappy with this decision, as they saw two different reactions from the officials on the same matter. While Rublev was disqualified from the tournament, Fils was just given a warning. Nonetheless, the Frenchman apologized for his mistakes and felt truly sorry for his outbursts. It is to be noted that this is not the first time that a player has complained about the court conditions at the Chile Open.

Arthur Fils joins Roberto Carballes Baena and Cristian Garin as the players to have complained about the court conditions of the 2024 Chile Open

Recently, tennis saw another player-official dispute as Arthur Fils lost his cool against the match referee over the court conditions. The ball wasn’t bouncing high enough, causing the players to not play their best and thus triggering Fils.

However, he was not the first player to complain about court conditions at the Chile Open. After losing in the first round, Roberto Carballes Baena gave a detailed review on the court, sharing his complaints. He pointed out that the ball did not bounce, making it harder for the players to move around and making it easier for an injury to happen.

Even Cristian Garin pointed out the same, calling it the worst court of ATP.

I don't like to criticize the tournament because it is here, but it is the worst court at the ATP level I have played on.

After multiple complaints, it is yet to be seen if the ATP can figure out the problem and solve it.
