Aryna Sabalenka revealed a funny congratulatory text sent to her by Novak Djokovic, after she became the new WTA World No.1. Following former World No.1 Iga Swiatek‘s loss to Jelena Ostapenko, the Belarussian was able to become the new World No.1. Djokovic, who will also become the World No.1 after the US Open, had sent a ‘funny’ congratulatory text to Sabalenka.

The Belarusian revealed that a lot of people and players had sent messages congratulating her. However, she was able to point out one of the funniest messages she received. Incidentally, this message was from ATP World No.1 player Novak Djokovic. The 23-time Grand Slam champion had sent a text saying, “Smile if you’ll become World No.1, “ which was very funny according to her.

“Someone mentioned us with funny sunglasses at the US Open,” she said. The Serbian great also heard of this mention, for he gave a cheeky response to the Belarusian. “The funniest one was from Djokovic because he will also become World No.1 after the US Open,” she said playfully, reminiscing the message.

While the Belarusian becomes the World No.1 for the first time in his career, this is not the case for the Serb. Djokovic holds the record for the most number of weeks at ATP World No.1 with a staggering 389 weeks at the top step. He is followed by former tennis player and Swiss maestro Roger Federer with 310 weeks at the top. The US Open will see the crowning of a new World No.1 in both the men’s and the women’s categories.

Novak Djokovic has done it again. He will be made the ATP No.1 player once again, following the conclusion of the US Open championship. Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champ at Flushing Meadows. Therefore, he will only be able to retain the 2000 points, not gain any, even if he defends his title.

However, with Djokovic, this is not the case. Following the vaccine ban, the Serb did not play the 2022 edition of the tournament. Therefore, with nothing to lose, he will be crowned the new World No.1.

The Serb has seen enough success to last him a lifetime. Yet being on the top step still seems to be a key goal in his career. Alcaraz can only try to reclaim his title by playing in tournaments following the US Open.
