Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka opens up on the issues in the WTA locker room. According to the Belarusian, the aggressive Ukrainians are the reasons for the rifts, and how her Ukrainian colleagues treat her and the Russian/Belarusian players are not ideal. It is not the first time that Sabalenka reveals about the ongoing tensions in and around WTA amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Sabalenka said, “I mean, yeah, definitely I feel a lot of weird looking at me and, yeah, probably hate from some of the people. But now I just realize that I have done nothing bad to Ukraine and I did nothing. There is some people don’t like me just because I was born in Belarus. It’s like it’s their decision, and I cannot control that, Yeah, it’s not the best feeling to be hated from people for basically nothing, but it is how it is.”

Sabalenka continued her train of thought, “I don’t know. I don’t know what to say, because again, he can comment my game, he can comment whatever he want to. Again, I have nothing to do with politics. I’m just an athlete, yes, from Belarus, and I’m just trying to do my best in my sport. Just trying to focus on myself.” (Source: Daily Express)

Aryna Sabalenka will start the clay season in the Stuttgart Open

Belarusian World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka had an injury setback in the Miami Masters that made her out of the Charleston Open- A WTA-500 tournament that is regular in the WTA Calendar. Now she will start her proceedings on indoor clay in Stuttgart with a strong field participating, including the Polish World No.1 as well as the strongest contender for the French Open, Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka had a dream run this season. She started the year by winning the Adelaide International 1 tournament by beating Linda Noskova in the final. Subsequently, she was able to win her career’s maiden Grand Slam singles title, when she defeated Elena Rybakina in the final of the Australian Open 2023.

When coming to her clay court record, She has won the Madrid Open in 2021. However, last season, was difficult for the Belarusian. She was knocked out in the first round of the Madrid Open by Amanda Anisimova. In the Italian Open, she lost to Iga Swiatek and in the French Open; she lost to Camila Giorgi in the third round.
