Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka recently admitted that she was left star struck when she encountered former British soccer player David Beckham. In an interview following her first match win at the WTA Finals, the Belarusian spoke about the time she met the English star.

World No.1 was at home in Miami, Florida before she packed up to leave for Cancun for the ongoing WTA Finals. There, she chanced upon an encounter with the 48-year-old and his wife, fashion designer and former ‘Spice Girls’ singer, Victoria Beckham.

The 25-year-old later stated that she was thrilled to meet the megastar.

It was amazing. David is such a nice guy. It was really nice talking to him.

On being asked to describe what it was like meeting the ‘Beckhams‘, Sabalenka stated:

It was amazing. David is such a nice guy. It was really nice talking to him. I literally just finished watching his Netflix show, and the next day I’m meeting David Beckham. How crazy is that. I was telling him ‘I just finished watching your show. It was amazing.’ It was a nice conversation with him.

Sabalenka had earlier shared a picture on her Instagram page with Beckham with the caption, ‘Low Key Miami Morning’. David Beckham commented that it was lovely to meet the player on her post. Sabalenka is currently competing at the prestigious season-end WTA Finals in Cancun.

Aryna Sabalenka calls out the WTA over ‘disrespectful’ courts in the Tour Finals

The WTA Finals are considered to represent the culmination of the women’s tennis season, a display of the world’s top eight players battling for the year’s biggest prize. However, this year’s event in Cancun, Mexico, has been overshadowed by controversy and criticism from various players. World No.1, Aryna Sabalenka joined in to critique the WTA for the utter disrespect and their poor management of the event.

Many players have described the courts as uneven, slippery, and dangerous. The 25-year-old went so far as to declare she didn’t feel safe playing on the courts. Apart from this, the players also couldn’t even practice as they arrived in Cancun, as the stadium was still being prepared.

Honestly, it’s another level of disrespect from the WTA for the players. Sometimes, I don’t even feel safe to move on this court.

For this year’s WTA Finals in Cancun, a temporary stadium was built with 4,300 seats. Sabalenka admitted that she had only about 45 minutes to try the stadium court. The No.1 player continues to persevere despite the many challenges she has faced. She believes the challenges only make her stronger, but maintains that an organization of such a high level should not be making such blunders.
