The WTA Finals, the most honored tournament of the year, are about to come to an end as the final two players battle it out for the title. American sensation Jessica Pegula booked the first spot at the finals after an unbelievable run through the group stages and the semi-finals. Iga Swiatek beat World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in another heated semi-final match to get a shot at the title.

Due to the intense weather conditions in Cancun, the semi-final clash between Swiatek and Sabalenka was suspended and postponed to the next day. On the previous day, Swiatek was leading by a set and soon converted that lead into a win the next day.

After comfortably winning the first set, the Pole used that momentum to take the match away from Sabalenka and book a spot in the finals. Following a hard loss, Sabalenka was asked to use three words to describe her week and another three words to describe the tournament.

About my performance here… challenging. Terrible. Not the best. Super sad… and this season? Unbelievable. Incredible. The best (laughing). I wish I would say the best about this tournament.

Iga Swiatek is only a win away from ending the year as World No. 1

After the 2023 US Open, Aryna Sabalenka dethroned Iga Swiatek as the number 1 ranked player in the women’s division. However, the Polish star has played brilliantly in the next few tournaments and is now only a win away from ending the year as No. 1 for the second time in a row.

The Belarusian was hoping to end the year as number 1 but after her loss, she now has to bank on Jessica Pegula to beat the Pole in the WTA Finals.

Iga Swiatek will face American Jessica Pegula in the finals of the WTA. Both players have had a remarkable season so far and are on winning streaks. Both players have played against each other eight times before, and Iga has emerged victorious in five of those meetings.

Both players are in the form of their lives and will look to end the year on a high. If the conditions allow, the finals are all set to be entertaining as both women gear up to win the title.
