After breaking the news of her pregnancy in January this year, former World No.1 Ash Barty and her husband Garry Kissick announced the arrival of their baby boy, Hayden, on Instagram on Tuesday (July 4). The tennis world, amidst the ongoing Wimbledon Championships, showered their wishes to the new mum while requesting her to take up the racquet again, just like Caroline Wozniacki.
Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur also echoed the same. Wozniacki, a former World No.1, retired from tennis and is all set to return before the US Open.
The Australian legend, Barty, bid adieu to tennis at the age of just 25, shortly after her first Australian Open victory in 2022. It’s worth noting that this win made her the first Australian to get crowned a champion in Melbourne since 1978. Before her title run in the season’s first Grand Slam event, she got crowned the Roland Garros champion in 2019 and lifted the Wimbledon title in 2021.
Sabalenka reached the next round on the back of an easy with over Panna Udvardy with the score of 6-3, 6-1. She believes if Barty decides to make a comeback, she will do it strongly. “I definitely think she has everything to come back. She’s very talented. I feel like she already made it once. I think if she’s going to decide to come back playing tennis, she’s going to go it well,” Sabalenka said after her win (via Tennismajors.com).
Ons Jabeur wishes to have a family like Ash Barty
Ons Jabeur who secured an easy win over Magdalena Frech 6-3, 6-3 in the first round, was asked about Ash Barty’s becoming the new tennis mom. To this, first Jabeur expressed her desire to have a family of her own before adding that she hopes Barty to follow in the footsteps of Caroline Wozniacki and make a comeback to the sport after a couple of years.
“Fantastic. I’m happy for her that she had a baby boy. I’m very happy for her because this is something that I want to have had, a family,” said Jabeur at the post-match press conference. “I’m sure she’s enjoying being a mom right now than being on a tennis court waiting to play at Wimbledon (smiling). I hope that she will change her mind like Wozniacki and comes back maybe in one or two years.”
