The Belarusian star, Aryna Sabalenka credits her father and believes that she got his strength and drive toward success from him. In November 2019, Sabalenka’s father Sergey passed away unexpectedly at the age of 43. Ever since his death, Aryna has focused more on her career and game and the results are evident now. The second seed won her first Major title earlier this year.

She previously won two Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles but later shifted her focus to singles. Her height is a major advantage to her as it gives her powerful serves and winners. 2023 had been nothing but the best for her so far as she won both the Adelaide International 1 and the Australian Open. Currently, she is playing in the Dubai Tennis Championship as the second seed.

Speaking to the Arab News on Sunday at the Dubai Tennis Championships, she talked about her father and said “I think my father made me a really tough person without actually knowing that. The way he was trying to motivate me, the way he was trying to raise me, the things he was telling me, the things he was fighting through, he was a really tough person. He was a great example in some ways for me.”

Just under a year ago, Aryna Sabalenka was on the brink of abandoning her aspiration to win a Grand Slam singles championship. Following consecutive first-round defeats in Miami and Indian Wells, she was grappling with substantial serve issues, having made 95 double faults in only her first six matches of the 2022 season.

Aryna Sabalenka’s red hot form continues

The 24-year-old, Aryna Sabalenka won her 14th consecutive match of the season and hadn’t lost a single match. After an unfortunate defeat in the finals of the WTA Finals last year against Carolina Garcia, she came back much stronger in 2023. Earlier this week she was back on the court after her first Grand Slam title and is currently playing in Dubai.

She defeated Jelena Ostapenko after losing the first set and reached the quarterfinals of yet another tournament. She will be facing the unseeded, Barbora Krejčíková later tonight. However, it is a one-sided contest on paper, Aryna wouldn’t want to be complacent and will be determined. This tournament will not be easy to beat as the top seed, Iga Swiatek is also in top form and it will be an interesting battle to watch out for if both players make it to the finals.
