The Wimbledon ban of 2022 for the Russian and Belarusian players due to the Russia-Ukraine war seemed unjust to many. The very fact that the players had to bear the consequences of what was happening on the border didn’t go well with many. However, the players had to agree and didn’t take part in the most prestigious tournament of the year. One such player who had to face the ban spoke about how she felt during the fortnight of the Wimbledon.
World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in a recent presser with Wimbledon, opens up on the stories of last year’ Wimbledon. She said,“I didn’t watch Wimbledon a lot. I felt so bad & I just couldn’t watch it. Every time if Wimbledon would be on TV, I would cry, so, I decided just to stay away from Wimbledon last year (smiling).” Clearly, the Belarusian ace was extremely gutted due to her missing the Championships.
Sabalenka also mentioned how she would start crying whenever she would see any match on the TV. Thus she decided to stay away from it as much as possible. However, there is a golden opportunity in her hands this time around. Aryna can turn the blues of the last edition into great memories this year by having a deep run at the All England Club. The ranking points are back with the return of these players and Sabalenka would love to cash in.

The 2023 edition of the Wimbledon provides a great opportunity for Aryna Sabalenka to have a deep run at the event. Entering the tournament as the second-best player in the draw, she is one of the favourites to win the title. However, she will have to be careful and maintain her match fitness throughout the course of the fortnight. After her epic breakdown at the French Open, the Belarusian has played only one warm-up event before Wimbledon.
She played in the grass court championships in Berlin. Unfortunately, she had an under-par run getting knocked out in just the second round by Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets. She will have to put that behind her quickly and remember the great run she had in 2021 when she reached the semifinals.
