Aryna Sabalenka explained why she chose the red dress for her matches at the ongoing Australian Open. The Belarusian went past the USA’s Amanda Anisimova on Sunday (January 21) to set up the quarter-final match-up against the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova, scheduled for Tuesday (January 23).
Following her straight-set win (6-3, 6-2) over Anisimova, Sabalenka was told she was probably the only player wearing a red dress.

The interviewer asked whether there was a special reason behind sporting the red Nike dress and whether she wanted to have her “bespoke” look.
I mean, yeah, you're right, I'm the only player who's wearing a red dress. It's not like I was - how to say - included in part of the process, preparing the color and everything, no. They just show me the dress I would play with, and I was super excited to wear the only red dress.Sabalenka said at the press conference after her fourth-round match at the AO
The 25-year-old denied giving any particular instructions to prepare the red dress for her. She, however, admitted she felt special because of the red sportswear.
But, I mean, I’m super happy. I feel so special. I really thank Nike for giving me this opportunity to feel special. But, of course, I want to have something more, like not just a different color. But that is how it is. I’m super happy to be special.

Aryna Sabalenka storms into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open
Aryna Sabalenka, the defending champion, is one of the favorites to win the title in Melbourne, and she also has yet to lose a set.

She is dominating the women’s singles like no other, and one is already anticipating a final against USA’s Coco Gauff. Even Gauff has secured herself a berth in the quarter-finals, where she will face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk on Tuesday (January 23).
Sabalenka started her campaign in Melbourne with an easy win over Ella Seidel in the first round before eliminating Brenda Fruhvirtova in the next round.
And against Lesia Tsurenko, the second-seeded Sabalenka bagged her maiden double bagel in her Grand Slam career. The Belarusian continued her winning ways in the fourth round with her win over Amanda Anisinova.
Barbora Krejcikova and Sabalenka will be locking horns for the seventh time. In their previous six encounters, the Belarusians clinched victory five times. They previously met at the Stuttgart Open, with Sabalenka winning the match. The only time Krejcikova could beat Sabalenka was at the Dubai Open in 2023.
