Aryna Sabalenka shockingly reveals that “she was no longer” dating Konstantin Koltsov before the unthinkable tragedy

The entire tennis community is constantly thinking of Aryna Sabalenka and sending her love and prayers following the sudden demise of Konstantin Kolstov. The former ice hockey player shockingly passed away on March 18 in Miami, sending shockwaves through sporting circles. 

Following Kolstov’s divorce in 2020, he started dating Sabalenka in 2021. While many assumed that the two were in a relationship until his passing, that might not be true.

The World No. 2 recently broke her silence for the first time since Kolstov’s demise, and her message hints at their breakup before the unfortunate passing.

Sabalenka and Kolstov confirmed their relationship after a few months of being together. They often featured on each other’s social media accounts. Rumors were floating about them getting married soon as the tennis star was reportedly spotted with an engagement ring but nothing was ever confirmed.

However, her latest statement has everyone surprised. She took to her Instagram stories to address the tragedy. The Belarussian requested privacy for her as well as Kolstov’s family in this difficult time. In this statement, she wrote ‘while we were no longer together’ in addressing Kolstov’s demise, which has given rise to speculation. 

While the two were not seen together on social media recently, one would have simply assumed it was due to their career commitments. Kolstov had recently become an assistant coach for the Russian club Salavat Yulaev. As a result, he was also traveling a lot. 

However, an alleged breakup being the reason for them not being together wasn’t what many thought of. Sabalenka didn’t mention anything more, and it could be a long wait for fans to know what went downhill for the tennis-favorite couple.

Aryna Sabalenka to continue chasing the title at the Miami Open

With all of the tennis world currently focused on the 2024 Miami Open, many believed that Kolstov was also in the city to support Aryna Sabalenka. However, whether it was the real reason or not is now a question.

Amid all of this, World No. 2 has chosen to remain in the draw. As the news of Kolstov’s passing circulated, the two-time Australian Open winner was seen practicing on the court. Many believed she would withdraw to take some time off and grieve the loss she has suffered.

As a true fighter, she has decided to fight for the title. She will start directly in the second round, having received a bye in the first. She will take on Paula Badosa in the second round of what will be the fifth professional meeting between them. Their head-to-head is currently tied at 2-2.
