A champion of a player Aryna Sabalenka continues her good form at the Australian Open without losing a set. She has played three matches so far and has only lost six games.

After demolishing Lesia Tsurenko in the third round, the Belarusian gave a few thoughtful words on the downside of being a perfectionist and whether she considers herself one.

She further elaborates by emphasizing that problems increase when one is trying to be more perfect, and instead, they should be more simple. That is what World No. 2 is trying to do, keeping it simple and focusing mainly on her maiden title defense.

Right now, I’m not trying to be perfect. I’m trying to do my job as good as I can. I think today’s performance was really, yeah, was perfection.

Said Aryna Sabalenka to the AO Press

Sabalenka couldn’t have had a more perfect third-round game, as she sent her opponent home without losing a set or game. Delighted with her gameplay, the Belarusian calls her game perfect but isn’t trying to be perfect as it is the cause of all the problems.

Playing against Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, the World No. 2 did not hold back on her power shots as she finished the match 6-0, 6-0 to mark her spot in the Round of 16.

With other top-ranked players like Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula out of the draw, Sabalenka refuses to look into the future of her title defense and would rather focus match by match.

Showing signs of improvement, Sabalenka has started to prove that she is a better player than last year and is a strong favorite of the tournament as a defending champion. She now faces Amanda Anisimova, who is back from an indefinite break from tennis.

With a huge opportunity to build on the momentum, Sabalenka would look to continue her straight-set wins and race into the finals. She faces the American in the round of 16 of the tournament and hopes to book an early spot in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
