Soon to be World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka was up against America’s Madison Keys for the semi-final round at the US Open. The Belarussian tennis player’s clash against Keys took an interesting turn since the latter gave Sabalenka a tough time.
Aryna Sabalenka was up against seventeenth seed Madison Keys at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Belarussian, who has advanced to the semi-finals by winning all her matches in straight sets, saw herself losing the first set to Keys. The American beat Sabalenka 6-0 in the first set.
Sabalenka’s appalling first-set loss came as a shock not only to the spectators but to the Belarussian as well. During the second set, she snapped out at her coach and threw a racket at him after he gave her a second one.
Madison Keys has entered her first US Open semi-final this season and has been playing well the entire year, especially at the ongoing tournament. She is known for catching players off-guard while on the court. Aryna Sabalenka, on the other hand, created history recently, becoming the only woman to enter the Semi-finals of all four Grand Slams.
Aryna Sabalenka storms to the US Open Finals, defeating Madison Keys
Aryna Sabalenka beat her opponent, Madison Keys, in a nail-bitingly close match. The semi-final round on Wednesday reached a conclusion over three sets, ending with the Belarussian’s win. Keys lost to the World No. 2 with a score of 6-0, 6-7, 6-7 against her.
Sabalenka will face Coco Gauff next, who defeated her Czech opponent, Karolina Muchova, earlier that night. Muchova faced a 4-6, 5-7 defeat against the teenager in two straight sets. Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka will face each other across the net this coming Sunday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for the Finals of the US Open. With both finalists being exceptional and refined players, their clash on Sunday will definitely be thrilling and worth watching.
