Belarusian tennis ace Aryna Sabalenka has been playing some phenomenal tennis at the 2023 US Open. She has won all three of her matches so far in straight sets. But Sabalenka is yet to get a game at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. The World No.2 has played three matches at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. Although Sabalenka has enjoyed some great crowd support, she wants her next match to be at the Arthur Ashe.
After defeating France’s Clara Burel in just an hour, Sabalenka was reminded that she has not yet played at the main court of the US Open. The Belarusian was quick to admit that she is also aware of it and urged the organizers to schedule her fourth-round match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
“I mean, of course, I have noticed that. Of course, I would like to play on Ashe. It’s [a] different atmosphere. Louis Armstrong (has been) giving me so much support and I like playing there, but yeah, I hope that the next match will be on Ashe. No pressure. I feel good on Louis. Feel good on Ashe. It’s, yeah, whatever,” said Sabalenka in the press conference.
Aryna Sabalenka not taking Daria Kasatkina for granted
While talking about her match against Burel, Aryna Sabalenka said that she feels really good about how she played. However, the Belarusian admitted that it won’t be easy against Daria Kasatkina in the fourth round. Sabalenka heaped praise on her next opponent saying Kasatkina has been moving well on the court.
“Yeah, always tricky matches against her,” said Sabalenka. “She’s playing great tennis. Moving really well. Trying to get everything she can back on that side. I feel like I have to be focused and I don’t have to overrush things against her. I just have to stay calm and just wait for the opportunity and take it.”
Notably, 13th seed Kasatkina has been in some good form at the 2023 US Open. The 26-year-old Russian has comfortably won her three matches so far. In her third-round match, Kasatkina defeated Belgium’s Greet Minnen 6-3 6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes. Also, the two players have faced each other six times so far and Sabalenka leads the head-to-head record 4-2.
