The ASB Classic is the premier tennis event in New Zealand. The tournament commenced on 29th December 2024. The finals of the men’s singles will be played on 13th January, Saturday. Coco Gauff already won the women’s singles title.

And now the two young players, Taro Daniel and Alejandro Tabilo, have reached the finals of the men’s division.

Both the players have been underdogs going into the tournament. Both of them defeated the top seed to the tournament to reach this ultimate stage of the tournament. While Alejandro Tabilo defeated Arthur Fils in the semis, Taro Daniel defeated Ben Shelton.

The final between these two players isn’t what a lot of people would have expected. Especially with Ben Shelton in such superb form, most of the players would have their money in place for the American. Toro Daniel, who eliminated Shelton, had a miserable time in 2018 in Auckland when he managed only one win against New Zealand’s Ajeet Rai. Last year he lost to Rai in the same tournament.

The 84th-ranked Alejandro Tabilo played really well throughout the tournament, firstly in the qualifying rounds and then the draw matches. Tabilo was set to play against Cameron Noorie in the quarters. However, as a result of Noorie withdrawing from the match, the 26-year-old qualified for the semis where he defeated Fils in straight sets.
