Australian tennis champion Ash Barty shockingly retired from professional tennis at 25 earlier this year after she won the Australian Open. Barty was the best tennis player back then and was the World No.1 when she made the call. She won Wimbledon last year and became the first Australian woman to win a major on home soil in 44 years after she won the Australian Open.

Recently, she has spoken about her sudden retirement decision in an interview with the Courier Mail and News Corp Australia mastheads ahead of the publication next week of her memoir, My Dream Time. She revealed that winning Wimbledon was one thing that she always wanted to achieve and upon winning at All England last year, she didn’t have the fire inside. In My Dream Time, she also wrote about how she didn’t know what she was playing for anymore.

“Winning Wimbledon was the single thing I wanted my whole career,’’ Barty told News Corp. “But after that feat, in June 2021, the fire died inside.”

Barty also revealed that despite her young age, she doesn’t have any intention to come back as she is currently very content with her life. The last few months post her retirement have been everything she has ever wanted.

“I tried to keep it raw and honest and not hide anything,’’ Barty told News Corp. “We put it together in a way where we tried to let everyone in. The last six or seven months of my life have been everything I have ever wanted. I’m loving the way my life is at the moment. I won’t even be estranged from the tennis world … but I just won’t be out there for me.”
